It has been a while since we last checked in with nOS and project founder Dean van Dugteren . In the last couple of months, the team at nOS has been keeping their heads down and adding improvements to the nOS ecosystem. Let’s check-in and see what they have been up to as they approach the launch of the nOS Mainnet
As one of ARK’s partners and a member of the Powered by ARK program , nOS is no stranger to building on the ARK Core platform. It is that level of ingenuity and experience that really gives them the ability to make some incredible strides when dedicating time to the nOS ecosystem. Currently, nOS has been working on some new features for the nOS wallet and their upcoming Mainnet launch. Let’s take a look!
Decentralized Profiles, Databases and IPFS on nOS
For those of you unfamiliar with the acronym, IPFS stands for InterPlanetary File System . IPFS is a peer-to-peer storage network. While HTTP might download your content from a single computer, a distributed peer-to-peer network like IPFS saves up to 60% on bandwidth costs and delivers content in an efficient and cost-effective manner. In addition, IPFS keeps your files and creates a robust network for mirroring data.
Thanks to IPFS, nOS’ database system will allow people to maintain their own real-time public databases for any category (such as crypto apps, videos, social media posts, news articles, etc.).
The nOS network’s database allows for a multitude of possibilities when individuals start pulling data for their needs. A few examples include: Creating decentralized music or video streaming service, or an app store that’s maintained entirely by network validators and stakers. By using an IFPS-powered database this means that the listing process in the nOS App Store will also be completely decentralized. The nOS App Store is a directory for crypto apps that’ll be maintained by network validators and NOS stakers.
nOS ERC-20 Swap Service and Decentralized Exchange
In addition to how the nOS network will handle data, there have also been significant improvements to the nOS wallet and Testnet.
In order to reach a wide audience, solutions need to be flexible and adaptable. Thus, nOS created an ERC20 Swap service. What results is wNOS, an ERC20 version of NOS on the Ethereum blockchain. Currently, this entire process is done directly within the NOS wallet! The ratio for swapping NOS for wNOS is one to one. This opens up a lot of possibilities for nOS as wNOS can work with any ECR20 application on the Ethereum blockchain.
Another additional feature in the nOS wallet is the decentralized exchange. The decentralized exchange on the nOS wallet is powered by the Uniswap Protocol and it can be used to instantly buy and sell wNOS for ETH.
This feature is currently live on the nOS Testnet. Once the nOS Mainnet launches, you can use the swap service with NOS and ETH.
Want to try it before Mainnet Launch? Go here: https://wallet.nos.dev (make sure to get some free testnet ETH from a faucet ).
Mainnet Launch and Building on ARK
Due to the ongoing global climate, nOS decided to spend more time on polishing their network and wallet prior to their Mainnet Launch. Originally scheduled for Q2 2020, we can expect the nOS Mainnet Launch to take place this August.
For our Powered by ARK members, we always strive to make ARK the best place to build. When catching up with Dean van Dugteren, founder of nOS, he had this to say:
“Working with ARK has been fantastic as usual. MarketSquare will be a very valuable addition to the ecosystem. We look forward to integrating it with nOS, and also to push our ARK Core plug-ins and other related products on there!” — Dean van Dugteren
